ACCESSIBILITY
Introduction
South Causey Inn is a friendly 28 room, all ensuite hotel, including easy accessibility to all disabled guests. Log fires, oak beams and oak flooring provide the warmest of welcomes. All room tariff's include a full English breakfast. We also have an Equestrian Centre providing horse riding lessons to our guests. There is also a fishing lake within walking distance from the Inn for our guests to try their angling techniques.
Pre-Arrival
- You can contact South Causey Inn direct on 01207 235555, or via email southcausey@hotmail.com. The hotel is only minutes from the A1.
- Public transport is available every half hour with the bus stop just outside the hotel with links direct to Stanley Town Centre (5 mins by bus or 20 mins on foot) or to Newcastle City Centre (30 mins by bus). The Metro Centre is only ten minutes drive away.
- A number of taxi firms run in the local area and information can be obtained from Reception.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
There is a flat paved car parking area outside the Inn providing space for approximately 40 cars covered by CCTV cameras, and if you need help with your luggage just ask at Reception, we are only too happy to help.
Main Entrance & Reception
- Our Main Entrance gives access to our Equestrian area as well as the Inn. There are picnic tables and hammocks outside the Inn for the finer weather (with a covered, heated area for smokers). There are two entrances to the hotel, either through the main doors (width 32 inches, side hung) to Reception providing disabled access, or through the side door (width 30 inches, side hung) directly into the bar area.
- Our welcoming Reception area (the height of the desk being 4ft) provides seating with two comfortable Chesterfields with daily tabloids for your perusal.
- Food is served between 11.30-21.00hrs, and can be served in either our bar area in front of our log fire, or in the restaurant. Our bar is open 24 hours to residents with service by our night porter, with room service provided during normal opening hours. Extra keys are available to your room on request.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
All flooring throughout our general public area is flat oak flooring, providing easy access to our Reception, Snug, Bar Area, Beamish Suite and downstairs WC's. Both doors to the Snug and Bar Area are wide enough for wheelchair users. There are two steps up to the Restaurant area, from Reception, with an alternative route via a ramp with a handrail, there is a public telephone situated on the wall at the top of this ramp also. Highchairs are available for our much younger guests.
Public Areas - WC
- There are WC's on the main floor, through a door at the end of the bar area, and also on the right at the top of the ramp in the Reception Area, where a disabled toilet is also located, both being accessible by wheelchair users.
- Our ladies toilets provide complimentary toiletries. WC's have side hung doors.
- There are also WC's outside near our Equestrian Arena.
Restaurant/Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe
Our wide selection of sumptuous meals can be viewed on our website and can be served either in our Shaftos Restaurant or in the bar area. Our shop based outside of the Inn also sells sandwiches, confectionary, soft drinks and coffee/teas.
Shop
Access to the shop is over a track round the back of our Arena. It gives a birds eye view of the inside of our arena where guests can watch lessons/displays taking place. All your equestrian needs can be catered for here; booking of lessons, tack, clothes, etc.
Leisure Facilities
- Our own British Horse Society Approved Equestrian Centre and Livery Yard, lies adjacent to the Inn. Established for over 20 years, we offer lessons for beginners and more experienced riders. Visitors are able to explore the beautiful surrounding area on horseback.
- Guests could even try a leisurely days fishing on one of our nearby trout lakes or try clay pigeon shooting and archery.
- Of course being set in beautiful countryside there are also ample walking routes around the local area.
Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment
- We cater for weddings, private parties and conferences. We are also a licensed venue for Civil Ceremonies and offer complete packages for either small or large numbers of guests. Our Bridal Suite has access directly into a private courtyard where a marquee will be decorated and ready for our guests celebrations.
- We have several function rooms available for private parties and can arrange buffets, discos and live entertainment.
- Our function rooms for conferences area available catering for up to 90 guests with equipment such as flip charts, etc. available for use.
- A full A La Carte or light buffet lunch menus are available on request.
- All our function areas are accessible to wheelchair users.
Bedrooms
- Our 28 en suite, beautifully, eclectic decorated bedrooms allow our guests to enoy their stay here in perfect comfort. We have 7 Double Ensuite rooms, and 3 Twin Ensuite rooms based up a flight of stairs. Two Luxury Rooms are located on the ground floor as are the Ten Courtyard Rooms, 3 of our Rooms (consisting of 2 Superiors, and 1 Courtyard Double) are based up one flight of external steps. Extra Make-Up beds can be provided. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, TV's, telephones, hair dryers and toiletries provided. All rooms are heated and carpeted. All our ground floor rooms are accessible to disabled guests, and we have one room with a wet shower.
- We have 3 Luxury bedrooms, one of which being our Bridal Suite, has access to a private courtyard.
- All rooms are fitted with fire alarms.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC (Ensuite or Shared)
Twenty rooms have bathrooms with overhead showers and WC's. Our 3 luxury bedrooms based on the ground floor have baths and seperate showers. All bathrooms are ensuite and fully tiled from floor to ceiling.
Attractions (Displays, exhibits, rides etc.)
- As stated previously we provide horse riding lessons for beginners and experienced riders as well as a livery yard. There are also small farm animals on sight which guests can feed.
- Beamish Open Air Museum is only a mile away and guests at the South Causey Inn can acquire special discounted tickets. Details available from Reception.
