INN GETS EXTRA STAR AS VICTORIAN GARDEN UNVEILED
(Article from the Northern Echo dated 12 August 2009)
An Inn has unveiled a Victorian classical garden which will produce fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables for its own kitchens.
The opening of the gardens at the South Causey Inn, Stanley, County Durham, comes in the wake of it being upgraded from a three-star to four-star hotel by the Tourist Board Enjoy England Scheme.
The Inn has also been awarded best family pub and best creative outdoor area in the Yorkshire and North-East region in the Great British Pub Awards, hosted by the Morning Advertiser.
Philip Moiser, who runs the Inn with his wife Susan, said "South Causey Gardens is a development for the local community and our patrons to come along and watch the produce develop and mature and enjoy the taste, sights and smells of this unique garden, or even pick salads for themselves".
He added "One of our popular dishes on the menu is freshly caught trout from our South Causey Lakes which stock brown, rainbow and blue trout - from 2lb to 18lb".
The Inn's trout pate was featured in the Taste of Durham Awards recipe book.
