ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Introduction
 
South Causey Inn is a friendly 30 room, all ensuite hotel, including easy accessibility to all disabled guests.  Log fires, oak beams and oak flooring provide the warmest of welcomes.  All room tariff's include a full English breakfast. 
 
Pre-Arrival
 
You can contact South Causey Inn direct on 01207 235555, or via email southcausey@hotmail.com.  The hotel is only minutes from the A1. Public transport is available every half hour with the bus stop just outside the hotel with links direct to Stanley Town Centre (5 minutes by bus or 20 minutes on foot) or to Newcastle City Centre (30 minutes by bus).  The Metro Centre is only ten minutes drive away. Please consult GoNorth East (Bus service provider)  and The Metro Centre for their accessibility statement .A number of taxi firms run in the local area and information can be obtained from Reception.
 
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
There is a flat paved car parking area outside the Inn providing space for approximately 80 cars covered by CCTV cameras, and if you need help with your luggage just ask at Reception, we are only too happy to help. Please note although ever care is taken South Causey Inn cannot accept responsibility to any damage to property in the public car park.  Disabled Car parking is provided next to the Durham Suite (for wedding guests and courtyard residents) and at the entrance to main reception, staff will be happy to direct guests.
 
Main Entrance & Reception
 
Our Main Entrance gives access to our Resident and Non Residents.  There are picnic tables and hammocks outside the Inn for the finer weather (with two covered, heated area for smokers).  There are two entrances to the hotel, either through the main doors (width 32 inches, side hung) to Reception providing disabled access, or through the ramped side door (width 30 inches, side hung) directly into the bar area. There are two ramped entrances, the cobbles entrance (with 34 Inches, side hung) and the Durham entrance double doors (49 inches, side hung). The Durham entrance also has a hand rail. Access can also be gained to the Durham Suite through the main reception. Our welcoming Reception area (the height of the desk being 4ft) provides seating with two comfortable Chesterfields with daily tabloids for your perusal. Food  is served between 11.30-21.00hrs,  (11.30 -20.30hrs Sundays) and can be served in either our bar area in front of our log fire, or in the restaurant. Bar is open till 12am.  Extra keys are available to your room on request.
 
Public Areas - General
 
All flooring throughout our general public area is flat oak flooring, providing easy access to our Reception, Snug, Bar Area, Beamish Suite and downstairs WC's.  Both doors to the Snug and Bar Area are wide enough for wheelchair users.  There are two steps up to the Restaurant area, from Reception, with an alternative route via a ramp with a handrail, Highchairs are available for our much younger guests. Our Durham suite – including the cobbles and Tanfield suite – also have flat oak flooring with two disabled accessible WC’s which have contrasting grab rails to highlight there position to users with visual issues. Moveable blocks are available on request to ensure access to the Lawn and staff are trained as to correct location and  use and traffic control if required upon request
 
Public Areas - WC
 
There are WC's on the main floor, through a door at the end of the bar area, and also on the right at the top of the ramp in the Reception Area, where a large cubical with grab handles & toilet is also located, both being accessible by wheelchair user and less mobile visitors.Our ladies toilets provide complimentary toiletries.  WC's have side hung doors. There are also WC's outside.There also two disabled accessible toilets situated to the rear of the Tanfield and cobbles with contrasting grab handles. Baby changing facilities are provided in the large cubical located near reception and in our disabled accessible WC’s in our Durham suite.
 
Restaurant/Dining Room, Bar & Lounges
 
Our wide selection of sumptuous meals can be viewed on our website and can be served either in our Shaftos Restaurant or in the bar area.
 
 
Civil Ceremonies
, wedding celebrations, Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment
 
We cater for weddings, private parties and conferences.  We are also a licensed venue for Civil Ceremonies and offer complete packages for either small or large numbers of guests. Civil Ceremonies are also licensed for outside. This is across a small public road and up a curb however staff are there to provide traffic control and correct installation of portable block ramps. Rear access to our beamish suite is up one small step where portable block ramps can also be used to increase access or the Beamish suite can be accessed on the flat from the main reception. Our Bridal Suite is located on the first story, with three alternative suites on the ground floor. We have several function rooms available for private parties and can arrange buffets, discos and live entertainment – our Beamish suite, Cobbles Bar, Tanfield suite, Durham Suite, Sung, Bar and Shafto Suite, all of which are wheelchair accessible. Our function rooms can catering for up to 150 guests with equipment such as flip charts, etc. available for use. A full A La Carte or light buffet lunch menus are available on request. All our function areas are accessible to wheelchair users.
 
Bedrooms
 
Our 36 en suite, beautifully, eclectic decorated bedrooms allow our guests to enjoy their stay here in perfect comfort.  We have 10 Double Ensuite rooms, and 3 Twin Ensuite rooms based up a flight of stairs.  9 Deluxe Rooms are located on the ground floor  to the front of the property and they are 9  Courtyard Rooms and 1 Deluxe room located in the courtyard on the ground floor. We have 3 Rooms (consisting of 1 Superior (Bridal Suite), and 2  Doubles) are based up one flight of external steps in the courtyard.  Extra Make-Up beds can be provided in courtyard rooms, Superior rooms and Deluxe rooms, and single occupancy rates are available for all rooms for guests traveling alone.  All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, TV's, telephones, hair dryers and toiletries provided.  All rooms are heated and all internal rooms are carpeted, and courtyard rooms, superior rooms and Deluxe having wooden flooring.  All our ground floor rooms are accessible to disabled guests, and we have one room with a wet room. We have 4 rooms with outdoor Hot Tubs and 3 of these have log burning stoves. All rooms are fitted with fire alarms with both sound and light alarms. We also have a renovated original 1960’s bus chick has been converted into an accommodation space. The lower deck is the bathroom and the upper deck is the bedroom. The top deck measures 67.5” from floor to ceiling and the lower deck 71” from floor to ceiling.
The staircase leading to the bedroom deck has been refurbished however it is steep and therefore is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
 
 
Bedroom - Bathroom, Shower-room & WC (Ensuite )
 
Twenty three rooms have bathrooms with overhead showers and WC's.  One courtyard room has a wet room.  Our 9 deluxe bedrooms based on the ground floor have baths and separate showers as do our 2 rooms on the first floor in the courtyard.  All bathrooms are ensuite.
 
Attractions (Displays, exhibits, rides etc.)
 
There are a small farm animals on site which guests can feed and we keep a pony for pony rides for weddings/ events etc.. Beamish Open Air Museum is only a mile away and guests at the South Causey Inn can acquire special discounted tickets – summer season only.  Details available from Reception
 
GUIDE DOGS
 
Guide Dogs are welcome anywhere in the Inn whilst on duty.
 
BREAST FEEDING
 
We welcome new mothers to exercise their right to breast feed where they feel comfortable to do so. Our staff would only guide breastfeeding mothers to a different environment unless there was a legitimate health and safety risk to either mother or child
